Laboratory

Beside being used as as establishments for day to day training of the students, the laboratories at IMS remains to birth places of many good research works in fisheries, aquaculture, microbiology and sea food processing, pollution and environmental studies, ecology, nutrition, biochemistry, hydrology and oceanography, fish and shellfish diseases, planktonology, etc., despite their relatively moderate ability to handle sophisticated experiments.

Field Station

A field station located at Cox's Bazar, around hundred and fifty kilometers from Chittagong, provides necessary facility for worthy field work. This area is endowed with world's longest natural sandy beach, a marvelous estuarine ecosystem, patches of mangroves and a rich fishing ground nearby. Cox's Bazar is one of the two major coastal aquaculture zones of the country and a remarkable size of artisanal fishing fleet, a number of peripheral activities like shrimp hatcheries, fish feed mills, sea food processing industries. A combination of so many facilities is available having the field station in this place. It is equipped with instruments and basic laboratory facilities.

Library

Professor A L Bhuyian Memorial Library of IMS hosts a large collection text books by renowned authors and publishers from around the world and other reference materials including local and international journals, periodicals, reports, technical publications, proceedings, theses and dissertations, tables and charts, atlases, encyclopaedia, manuals, catalogues, bibliographies, etc. In addition, teachers, students and other academics have easy access to the University'sCentral Library's collection of books and reference materials.

Marine Museum

IMS has got a museum of marine life forms coming from a variety of habitats and representing a wide range of marine plants and animals including marine fishes, crabs, shrimps, lobsters, octopus, squid, sharks and rays, snakes, turtles, starfishes, corals, sea urchins, sea cucumber, sea anemones, various forms of shells and conches, oysters, limpets, barnacles, sea weeds and many more. This wonderful collection provides ample opportunity for studying marine life forms.

Collaborative Facilities

IMS collaborates with the Bangladesh Navy for providing sea-going facilities to the researchers and students. It maintains constant efforts to extend collaboration with other agencies as well.
