Academic Programs

 
IMS offers undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees in Marine Science and related disciplines.

Degree awarding academic programs are governed by the respective ordinances of IMS and the University.

Degree Programs

BSc Honors

IMS offers a four-year professional BSc degree in Marine Science. In each academic year 42 students are enrolled for the BSc class through competitive MCQ based admission test. A total of 60 courses are offered at the undergraduate level. Distribution of courses, marks and credits are shown in table 1.

MSc

This is a one year program with taught courses and Thesis. Students after completion of their BSc Honors degree with good grades/results may apply for this program. Graduates from other institutions with relevant Bachelors degree and/or background preparation and satisfactory grades may also apply for the course.

At IMS, Masters Degree is offered in six different disciplines (called branch). Prospective students apply for choosing their discipline(s) of interest in order of their preference. The Academic Committee of IMS assigns them their fields of degree program based on their interest, availability of faculty and other resources. However, IMS do not offer courses in a discipline unless at least five candidates shows intention for that discipline for that particular academic year.

Discipline/Branch options in Masters program are:

Number of courses may vary among branches. However, a total of XX credits has to be completed in each branch to qualify for the degree.
